Goal Eight Accomplishments: Evaluate Accountability Processes

  • Obtained a grant through the Department of Justice to implement a Body Worn Camera Policy and Implementation program
    • Sent two officers to the National Body Worn Camera Conference. 
    • Trained all officers in the use of new camera hardware and policy. 
    • Created an internal auditing process to ensure officer compliance and to continuously monitor and evaluate the program. 
    • In 2019, the department yielded a 99% compliance rate. 
    • The creation and implementation of our BWC program led to an invitation from the Center for Naval Analyses (CNA) to present on our internal auditing process with the goal of assisting other police departments around the nation with the development of their own auditing processes. 
    • St. Anthony PD personnel also presented on our internal auditing process at the 2020 National Body Worn Camera Conference. 
    • Integrated our BWC cameras with our current squad car cameras and new facility camera system to provide for the seamless capture of video and audio from first contact on the street, to the squad car, and at the police department. 
    • BWC video also reviewed as part of any officer complaint or officer use of force incident.
  • Reviewed and updated our complaint and commendation reporting process. 
  • Updated the process for recording complaints in the Records Management System for better consistency. 
  • All alleged misconduct statistics are provided to the MN POST Board and made publicly available on the department website.
