The Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently strengthened its drinking water standards related to lead and copper. The revised requirements protect our public health to an even greater degree by reducing exposure to lead in drinking water. Lead can cause serious health problems if too much enters your body.
The drinking water provided to residents from the City St. Anthony does not contain lead.
As part of the new federal requirements, the City of St. Anthony will be compiling an inventory of each water service line in the city to determine the pipe’s composition and to see if it is lead, galvanized steel, non-lead, or unknown.
For more information, visit the EPA's website for the Revised Lead and Copper Rule.
To locate your water service line, find your water meter which is typically located on the lowest floor of your home in basements or crawlspaces. The water service line is the portion that comes from the outside to your water meter. Below are some examples.
Please submit up to three photos of your water service line that where it comes into the house. This is the lower pipe to just above the meter (see examples).
To determine your type of pipe material, scratch the pipe with a coin, use a magnet, submit the material type based using the helpful image below. Enter the material of the lower pipe connecting to your water meter. If you don't know or are unsure, select "Other/Not Sure".
Please use a small magnet to determine.
