Fire Chief Israel "Izzy" Diaz

Fire Chief, Israel “Izzy” Diaz joined the department in late 2023. Chief Diaz has more than 29 years of experience, including serving with the Roseville Fire Department since 2008, and on call with SBM Fire (Spring Lake Park/Blaine/MoundsView) since 2003. Diaz grew up in Guzman City, Jalisco, Mexico where he developed his passion for firefighting when he was invited to a ride-along with his fire department, found a mentor and became a fire explorer. Chief Diaz worked for the Guadalajara Fire Department for three years before coming to the United States 25 years ago. Previously, Chief Diaz was part of an award-winning fire department with a record of eight consecutive years as the best station of the year. He has spearheaded high performing teams in the fire service while mentoring firefighters on their pathways to becoming officers and chief officers. Diaz has been involved with multiple international donations of fire equipment and fire vehicles to his townhome and neighboring towns in Jalisco Mexico.

Deputy Fire Chief Mattie Jaros

Jaros plays a critical role, as an integral part in ensuring the safety and well-being of Saint Anthony Village. Jaros provides a wealth of experience and dedication to this position. She has demonstrated leadership, commitment, and expertise throughout her time here at St. Anthony Fire. As the second-in-command of our fire department, the Deputy Chief works closely with Fire Chief Izzy Diaz and other department members to uphold the department’s mission of safeguarding lives and property. Jaros has been with the St. Anthony Fire Department since 2008. She holds a B.S. in Fire Administration with a concentration on Fire Investigation, serves on the Hennepin County Fire Investigation Team, is certified in Emergency Management by the Department of Homeland Security, acts as the City’s Fire Marshal and works closely with our school district and other community organizations to provide fire prevention education to all ages.
