The Fire Department provides fire suppression, emergency response at the EMT level, and hazardous materials response at the Operations level. The Department also provides fire code inspections, fire prevention, and education, and administers the City's disaster response programs and city code education. In addition to our day-to-day responses, we are also one of six member cities that make up the North Suburban Hazardous Materials Response Team. That team is made up of firefighters trained to the hazmat technician level and respond to hazardous materials incidents in the six participating cities or when requested by another entity for mutual aid.
Each year the fire department responds to over 1,600 calls including fires, medical emergencies, automobile accidents, and mutual aid to other communities.
