With guidance from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR), the City Council has developed a Turkey Management Plan in hopes of addressing public safety concerns and community nuisance issues. This Plan was reviewed and approved at the September 13, 2021 Parks and Environmental Commission meeting and final approval was given at the September 28, 2021 City Council Meeting.
Wild Turkey Management Plan
The goal of the plan is to manage two primary concern areas in regards to the wild turkey population: public safety and property damage. If you are experiencing these issues, residents are asked to take the first step of managing the nuisance by altering the habitat on their property. This can b
e done by:
- Pruning branches in roosting trees
- Covering dusting areas with rock or other natural barriers (botanical or pollinator gardens etc.)
- Removing food sources
- Placing temporary fencing/barriers to deter the turkeys from high pedestrian traffic areas
If you have tried the above management tactics and are still having issues with the wild turkeys damaging property or being a public nuisance concern, you can complete the form below and someone from the city or local MN DNR will contact you.
